Should we abandon standard forceps biopsy to diagnose an endobronchial lesion?
نویسنده
چکیده
T he diagnostic yield of flexible bronchoscopy with direct standard forceps biopsy ranges from 72% to 82% in large (.200 patients) case series of patients with endobronchial visible tumours presenting as an exophytic mass or submucosal lesion [1]. At least three endobronchial forceps biopsy samples are recommended at the risk of mild self-limiting (10%) or severe life-threatening (,0.02%) bleeding [2]. The addition of endobronchial needle aspiration to endobronchial forceps biopsy at first bronchoscopy or a repeat flexible bronchoscopy with endobronchial forceps biopsy increases the diagnostic yield to .90% [3, 4].

Comparison of suction catheter versus forceps biopsy for sampling of solitary pulmonary nodules guided by electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy.
BACKGROUND Electromagnetic navigation has been approved for use as an adjunct to standard bronchoscopy. The diagnostic yield varies depending on the size of the lesion and successful navigation to the lesion. OBJECTIVES The performance of two different biopsy tools, i.e. catheter aspiration and forceps biopsy, in the diagnosis of small pulmonary nodules (SPN) guided by electromagnetic navigat...
متن کاملEndobronchial ultrasound-guided cryobiopsies in peripheral pulmonary lesions: a feasibility study.
Peripheral lung lesions are sometimes difficult to reach even with endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) and insufficient material is often obtained by transbronchial forceps biopsy. Cryoprobes can be used for performing tissue biopsies. We evaluated the safety and feasibility of the cryoprobe in combination with EBUS for the diagnosis of peripheral lung lesion. Patients with peripheral lung lesions ...

Although exophytic endobronchial lesions can readily be diagnosed by routine forceps biopsy through the fiberoptic bronchoscope, submucosal or peribronchial tumor can be difficult to diagnose with nonsurgical techniques. We evaluated the utility of transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) through the fiberoptic bronchoscope in 31 patients presenting with endoscopic abnormalities suggestive of su...
متن کاملA case of endobronchial polyp mimicking congenital lobar emphysema in an infant
Background: Congenital lobar emphysema, also called infantile lobar emphysema, is a respiratory disease that occurs in infants when air enters the lungs and cannot leave easily. It results from cartilage deficiency and bronchomalacia causing distal air trapping and respiratory distress. In this study, we present a case of endobronchial polyp mimicking congenital lobar emphysema. Case presentati...
متن کاملCryobiopsy increases the diagnostic yield of endobronchial biopsy: a multicentre trial.
Forceps, brushes or needles are currently the standard tools used during flexible bronchoscopy when diagnosing endobronchial malignancies. The new biopsy technique of cryobiopsy appears to provide better diagnostic samples. The aim of this study was to evaluate cryobiopsy over conventional endobronchial sampling. A total of 600 patients in eight centres with suspected endobronchial tumours were...
